The Prospective Marriage visa (also known as the Fiancee visa) – subclass number 300 – is a visa allows people to travel to Australia to marry their prospective spouse, where the intended spouse is:
- an Australian citizen
- an Australian permanent resident
- an “eligible New Zealand citizen”
The Prospective Marriage visa is a temporary visa with a validity of 9 months.
Applicants must be outside Australia when the visa application is lodged with the Department of Immigration, and in most cases the visa applicant must be outside Australia when the visa is granted.
Applicants must also be sponsored by their prospective spouse.
Once married the holder of a Prospective Marriage visa can apply for a Partner visa onshore so that s/he can remain in Australia.
